geo|logic - 2024
geo|logic is a series of destroyed pots which juxtapose clay's return to a primordial state with the act of surveillance. These are performance pieces: they appear to be in a “natural” state only because of my intervention and human biases. The universe tends toward entropy, and the viewer may read these pieces as less ordered, or closer to an entropic state, but they are just as finished and ordered as any piece of my functional ware or sculpture. By filming the creation of geo|logic 2 the relationship between viewer and piece was corrupted even further. The viewer, who is confronting thousands of years of intervention being distilled into a few hours of work, is now faced with a viral video that captures the idea of centuries-long erosion as bite-sized content ripe for online consumption. There is no actual geologic, or logic of the earth. The earth only exists for human enjoyment, serving as a microcosm of the digital age and the way that digital consumption mimics the earth’s natural devolution.
